Autumn Feature

FALL FASHION

This season, designers have embraced fall and created unique and distinctive styles to fit everyone’s wardrobe. From Balenciaga to Christian Dior, they have the look covered. This seasons trends are an erratic change from Autumn 2017, from skinny jeans and knitwear to animal print and metallic pieces. But why have they made this devious change this year?

Tom Ford
(Tom Ford, Vogue, 2018)

One of the top trends seen this autumn is animal print. From leopard print to zebra print, tiger print to ocelot print, this season animal prints were filling the runways. But the difference? Models were covered from head to toe in a selected bold print of choice with Tom Fords line as a clear example. This trend expresses confidence through the bold and bright looks, whilst also promoting independence and self promotion through each look. However for an everday look, Tom Ford may not meet the budget, so highstreet brands have also made a re-appaerance on animal prints, such as Zara who have launched their 64 piece animal print collection, making it more accessible for everyone.

Silver and metallic vibes have also made an appearance in this years autumn runway, making them bolder than before by adding sequins and sparkles to emphasise this. Paco Rabanne being a brilliant example for the emphasis on sequins and sparkles with their line for this season. Unlike Balmain who emphasises on the metalic and shiny side of things on their runway. This statement may sway towards the scary side of things when it comes to fashion, but this look can become minimal and more comfortable, whilst still looking on top. Highstreet brands such as Topshop have included this trend in their latest range, making the uniqueness of this look more accessible.

Calvin Klein

Tweed and check have also become one of the most popular trends of the season this year, dressed top to bottom in 80’s style, expressing elegance whilst on the runway. This shape lifting trend hit the runways from all the top designers, Calvin Klein and Chanel showing off their oversized tweed jacket, and Prada and Matty Bovan introducing their tweed co-ords of the season. This sophisticated trend has again been spotted in many highstreet shops, one being Zara whose new collection is purley based on tweed and check but doesnt require breaking the bank.

Another trend seen this Autumn is pleated skirts. Vogue has endourced this fashion statement this season with the “knife pleat”, meaning the pleats sway the same way. This look can also be styled in many ways. As seen in Valentino, it can be styled over trousers, or like Balanciaga, with a fluffy jumper and a chain of a necklace, or more realistically with a black long sleeve turtle kneck top from Topshop. These pleats show classiness along side with the sassiness from the knife pleat, one of autumns most persuasive trends. And why not with a cute, delicate blouse? These pleats are sharp. Again, this trend can be spotted in the highstreet, shops like H&M have stocked these pleats for a more affordable price than Valentino.

This fashion trend will not be a surprise to many of you. Fluffy jackets have clearly made the cut for this seasons trend. From teddy bear jackets to silk fur jackets, they haven’t been left unseen this year. Shown by Paco Rabanne in this years runway, oversized furry jackets are a must have. Not only are they the most practical trend this autumn by keeping us snug, they still make the outfit and make us feel “put together”. Like the other trends, the high street stores have caught onto these fluffy must haves and designed their own. And due to how popular this trend is, it would be hard to find a store which didn’t. Urban Outfitters have in fact made their version ‘cropped’ attracting the younger buyers of the store and also making it with ‘teddy bear fur’. This trend has definitely won the buyers over the most this Autumn compared to the rest, and probably due to the practicality of it too.

All these trends have in some way hit the high street just as well as they did in the runways, they just don’t include that daunting price tag. Some may feel out of their comfort zone, but with a minimalistic touch you can feel comfortable whilst still being on top of the top trends for Autumn 2018.
