James Bulgur case…
James Bulgur was a young boy from kirkby, England who died at the age of two years old on February the 12th 1993. He was abducted, tortured and then murdered by two ten year old boys from the same area. Robert Thomson and Jon Venables born 23rd of August 1982 and 13th of August 1982. The boy’s left his mutated body to be found two days later on a railway line 2.5 miles away in Walton, Liverpool after leading him away from his mother who looked away momentarily in the New Strand Shopping Centre in Bootle.
It was found on the CCTV footage of the shopping center, the two boys casually looking around at younger children, to see which would be their target. They were also seen to be stealing from the shopping center, things such as, sweets, batteries and blue paint in which some were left found on the murder scene. One of the boys later revealed their plan was to abduct a child, lead him to a busy road and push him into the traffic. The moment the boys approached Bulgur in the shopping center was seen on the CCTV footage at 15:42. They walked with Bulgur across Liverpool whilst joking they were going to push him into the canal after dropping him on his head and being seen by 38 people. Two bystanders challenged the boys when Bulgur was seen crying with a bump to the forehead, but the boys claimed he was either lost and they were helping, or it was there younger brother.
One of the two boys threw blue paint into Bulger’s left eye. They kicked him, stamped on him and threw bricks and stones at him. Batteries were placed in Bulger’s mouth and finally the boys dropped a 22-pound iron bar, on Bulger. He sustained 10 skull fractures as a result of the bar striking. The boys laid Bulger across the railway tracks and weighted his head down with dirt and stones, in the hope he would be hit by a train and it would appear an accident. After they left the scene, Bulgur’s body was cut in half by a train. It is suspected that there was also a sexual element to the torture of Bulgur due to him being found undressed.
The boys were found guilty on the 24th of November 1993, making them the youngest convicted murders in English history. Over 500 people gathered at the court for the boys trail. They were put into young offenders until the age of 18 when they were released and given a brand new identity and moved away. However, Venables was sent to prison again after breaking his privacy of his identity. He is now onto his third identity of his life as in 2018, he was sentenced to having 40 months in jail for over 1000 photos of children found on his devices.
A nine month sentence has been given to James Bain for releasing photos on twitter of what he had thought to be the two killers as adults. He was charged with contempt of court for disobeying the court and impeding the case. Althoough these two pictures were false, it could have put the lives of the inncoent in danger.
